In our final installment of the series, Understanding the Mass, we learn about the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the Concluding Rites. It is in the Liturgy of the Eucharist that we have what makes Mass what it is, that is the sacrifice of Christ made present for us at the altar. At the words of consecration, the words that Jesus used at the last supper, He truly becomes present, and His sacrifice on the cross is made manifest for us, so we may glorify God, and receive His grace and blessing.

In this part of the series, I talk about the Introductory rites and the Liturgy of the Word. The Lord wants us to encounter Him and the Introductory rites prepare us to do so such that we can encounter Him not only in the Liturgy of the Word, but in the most excellent way in the celebration of the Mass that is in the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The Liturgy of the Eucharist will be covered in Part 3 of the series along with the Concluding Rites.

In this first part of the series, I introduce what the mass is, who it’s for, and how to best participate. I also talk about the liturgical year the different liturgical colors, the vestments, the sacred vessels, and the furniture of the church. The next part, Part 2, will cover the introductory rites and the liturgy of the word, and the final part, Part 3, will discuss the liturgy of the Eucharist and the concluding rights.
